The first publicly available Gowalla 4.0 Special Event Postcard and Guide is one created for the 2011 Fantastic Fest held in Austin, Texas.

It is supported by a custom stamp to mark this momentous event and location.

“Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world.  In years past we have presented the world premieres of THERE WILL BE BLOOD, APOCALYPTO, CITY OF EMBER, ZOMBIELAND, and GENTLEMEN BRONCOS, while our guest roster has included such talent as Mel Gibson, Bill Murray, Dolph Lundgren, Jemaine Clement, Paul Rudd, Bill Pullman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Kevin Smith, Jon Favreau, George Romero, Darren Aronofsky and Mike Judge. We also feature world, national and regional premieres of new, up-and-coming genre films.”

You can also pick up the special stamps for the South Lamar location of the Alamo Drafthouse as well as the featured stamp for The Highball.

For more information check out Fantastic Fest 2011.

Brewing Gowallabies

Do you love Shiner Beer?  The folks over at Gowalla apparently do too.  The K. Spoetzl  Brewery is sporting a custom stamp!  People often say that custom and featured locations aren’t always off the beaten path.  Well this spot certainly qualifies as it is miles from any urban location.  You don’t just stumble upon the Spoetzl Brewery, it’s a destination in and of itself.

Royal Gowallabies

Whether you are cheesed-off or chuffed to bits about it, The Royal Wedding will be taking place, and you can do abso-bloody-lutely nothing to stop it.

So if you’re in “The Big Smoke” during the festivities embrace it and pick up this special “The Royal Wedding” stamp while visiting “Westminster Abbey“.

There are many featured locations around London, so go out and see what the city has to offer.

So what do you do if you aren’t anywhere near London?  Check in at any location where you are watching the event and mention “Royal Wedding” to have this festively designed pin added to your virtual passport.

It looks as if the University of Texas at Austin is about to undergo a major Gowalla facelift.  Because of it’s close proximity to Gowalla’s home base, its no surprise that UT leads all other universities with number of checkins (by about 1300).  There are already five featured locations on campus, but it looks as if there are an additional 12 to 15 proposed locations.

Although unofficial, see my tour here for the complete list of the newly chosen spots.  My personal favorite is the “Turtle Pond“, I can’t wait to see how the stamp turns out.

I assume this also means that there will soon be a specially designed University of Texas Tour pin accompanying these new stamps.

…but what am I?

This “Basement of the Alamo” stamp is pure genius.  It’s been a spot for a while, but it’s nice to see the folks over at Gowalla give credit where credit is due.  If you don’t “get it”, watch the video until the bitter end.  Then head down to San Antonio and see if you can give Pee Wee a hand at finding his stolen bike.
