A Fantastic Start To Gowalla 4.0

The first publicly available Gowalla 4.0 Special Event Postcard and Guide is one created for the 2011 Fantastic Fest held in Austin, Texas.

It is supported by a custom stamp to mark this momentous event and location.

“Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world.  In years past we have presented the world premieres of THERE WILL BE BLOOD, APOCALYPTO, CITY OF EMBER, ZOMBIELAND, and GENTLEMEN BRONCOS, while our guest roster has included such talent as Mel Gibson, Bill Murray, Dolph Lundgren, Jemaine Clement, Paul Rudd, Bill Pullman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Kevin Smith, Jon Favreau, George Romero, Darren Aronofsky and Mike Judge. Back to School, With Gowalla

It looks like you are now able to create spots and edit currently created spots with the new “school” stamp.  With school starting or right around the corner it’s just in time (and a reminder to bring your books and an apple for the teacher).

Gowalla has also reorganized some of the spot categories.  For example the “Education” category has been replaced with a “Community” category.  The other categories, in order, are “Entertainment”, “Event”, “Food”, “Nightlife”, “Outdoors”, “Shopping”, and “Travel”.

Underwater Gowallabies

I was very excited to see this has become a featured stamp.  This is personally one of my favorite places to visit and I have highlighted this as a “best kept secret”. Nestled right in the middle of downtown Dallas, it is an aquarium, a rain-forest, and Mayan temple all teaming with indigenous life.

Brewing Gowallabies

Do you love Shiner Beer?  The folks over at Gowalla apparently do too.  The K. Spoetzl  Brewery is sporting a custom stamp!  People often say that custom and featured locations aren’t always off the beaten path.  Well this spot certainly qualifies as it is miles from any urban location.  You don’t just stumble upon the Spoetzl Brewery, it’s a destination in and of itself.

New Spot Categories

We have been waiting for some of the categories for quite a while now.  Looks like we have more specific options for Asian food, sports locations, and the highly anticipated generic School category.

In the order listed below:  Baseball Stadium, Thai Food, Baseball Field, Vietnamese Food, Tennis Court, Local Sports, Football Field, Soccer Stadium, and School:

Easy Gowallabies

It’s pretty simple (hence the name).  Make it to Austin (1), checkin at Gowalla HQ (2), and pick up this pin (3).  See it really is as easy as 1, 2, and 3.

Fresh & Frigid Gowallabies

Even though this pin has been available for a while you should still get out and pick it up.  Check in at your favorite local farmer’s market and feel good about contributing $1 to Frigidaire’s “Save the Children” campaign.  Gowalla and Frigidaire want you eating fresh food for all your meals.
